easing in new england where a blizzard dumped 3 feet of snow over the week, with bans lifted as plows clear the highways. 500,000 people were without power at one point. that is down to under 200,000 customers, mostly in massachusetts. many schools and businesses remain closed today because people have not been able to get there. check this out, a tv station in the hartford, connecticut area, captured every second of the blizzard. as you can see in this time-lapse video of the snow, it rose from ankle high to more than waist high. >> the highway patrol hopes to interview the driver of a car who veered off the road and into a steep ravine yesterday afternoon a mile east of clayton road. a corvette went 150' down the embankment after losing control. the driver was trapped inside. the passenger was able to get out on his own and call 9-1-1.

a team of 25 emergency personnel spent two hours using ropes and pulleys to bring the driver to safety. >> it took a lot of personnel, a lot of hauling, just extent, pulling him up using pulleys and things like that. it is steep embankment. the driver was air lifted to the hospital. there are no signs alcohol was involved but they say speed was likely a factor. >> two men are under arrest this morning after taking police on a brief chase and crashing in to another car in san francisco. officers spot add car reported stolen at 7:30 last night. police tried to pull the driver over and he tooked off. after crashing, two young men rap off but they were caught a short distance away. >> this morning, police are looking for the person who/d tires on dozens of vehicles, a picture posted on the video shows the damage, all four tires were slashed.

about 60 vehicles were damaged and they everyone parked in the area at bellaire. police believe it 457ed -- it happened early yesterday morning. >> santa clara sheriff deputies want to learn more of a shooting that killed one and sent another to a hospital near highway 85 and union avenue in san jose. neighbors called 9-1-1 after hearing shots at 3:45 in the afternoon. police found a man dead at the scene and the other person who was shot walked to a hospital emergency room a short time later and he is expected to survive. >> two burley claw students charged with killing an exotic bird at a hotel are due back in las vegas today for court arraignment. the two students both 24, were arrested last october phoebe heading an exotic bird. they chase add 14-year-old bird into trees at the hotel's

>> more than 4,000 passengers and crew are stranded on a carnival cruise ship in the middle of the gulf of mexico. a fire in the engine room caused a power outage sending the ship adrift. this is the shift before the port in texas on thursday. a backup generator is providing limited electricity and a tugboat steams to the ship and it will be towed to the nearest port in mexico. >> report commissioned by joe petrino's family contradicts families of the investigation by penn state into the sex abuse scandal regarding sandusky. the family's review says paterno did not attempt to hide investigation contrary to former f.b.i. director's report for the school which said there was more concern about protecting the football program than protecting children. in an exclusive interview to air today, sue paterno tells katie how she feels.
